Ribble hybrid range EXPLAINED

A hybrid bike as its name suggests is a mix of 2 bikes. It is essentially a mountain bike but with road bike equipment fitted to make it lighter. This provides more speed for less effort than a ‘proper’ mountain bike. After much design and development we have recently launched a new range of market leading hybrids . Here we take you through this brand new Ribble Hybrid range.

Hybrid AL e – from £1899

The AL e is the electric option in the Ribble hybrid range and provides smooth electric assistance for when you need it the most. The hub driven motor provides 3 levels of power assist and the replaceable slimline battery fits neatly within the downtube, so you would be hard pressed to tell if it was an ebike at all.

Ebikes are a great option for anyone looking to build up fitness or prolong their cycling experience when ill health or advancing age limits their ability to climb. With the ebikemotion system that we use there is also a corresponding smartphone app which connect to the bike and provides cycling computer functions, online navigation, heart rate compatibility and much more. The app is great aid to fitness .

More information on the smart phone app is available here.

The Hybrid AL e is a pedal assist style of bike so still requires pedalling input from the rider. As such, assistance will only be provided up to 15mph, above this the assistance automatically cuts out. In terms of range a full battery charge is good for approx 100km if the assistance is only activated when needed most. If full assistance is activated for a complete ride then you can reasonably expect the assistance to last for 60-80km (this is dependent upon terrain, rider and rider style).

There are two build options available, the first is the standard build option (as per the image above ) which is fitted with a Sram NX groupset. This single chainring set up simplifies the gearing system and offers the rider a wide gear range for easier pedalling when the terrain steepens.

Build option 2 is the ‘Fully Loaded’ edition and is identical to the first option above but with the addition of certain accessories. These accessories are fitted during the build process. The additional items are;

  • A colour matched pannier rack to enable the carrying of luggage.
  • Ribbles own rechargeable lightset that provides 300 lumens from the front and 150 lumens from the rear light (this is more than enough for any urban rides).
  • A Knog Oi Classic bell, a modern take on a classic device.
  • SKS full coverage mudguards keep you dry when the weather is inclement.

Hybrid AL

The Hybrid AL is a beautiful Aluminium bike with classic, retro styling. These bikes are a great option for commuting, leisure rides or family ride outs with the kids. The flat, colour matched integrated bars and stem enable the rider to achieve a more upright and relaxed rider position. The Hybrid AL is available in 4 build options the Commuter, Commuter Fully Loaded, Leisure and Leisure Fully Loaded

Hybrid AL Commuter – £699

  • A Shimano Claris 8 speed groupset offers reliable ‘no nonsense’ shifting and a wide range of gearing for all terrains.
  • Hydraulic disc brakes are the most powerful type of brake and offer controlled braking in any conditions.
  • Wide tarmac tyres offer great grip, comfort and excellent puncture resistance.
  • Pannier rack and mudguard compatibility, for luggage carrying and wet weather protection.

Hybrid AL Commuter Fully Loaded – £799

Exactly the same features as the standard commuter (above) but with the additions listed below. When the fully loaded option is selected the accessories are all fitted during the build process.

  • Colour matched pannier rack. The rack perfectly matches the paintwork of the frame and allows up to 20kgs of luggage to be carried.
  • Ribbles own powerful and rechargeable lightset (300 lumen front and 150 lumen rear).
  • Knog Oi Classic Bell- a sleek and modern take on the classic cycling bell.
  • SKS full coverage mudguards- keep you dry.

Hybrid AL Leisure – £699

The Leisure version is identical to the commuter edition (above) except it is fitted with 650b mountain bike style wheels instead of 700c road wheels. The purpose of a 650b wheel instead of a road wheel is the MTB wheels have a wider rim profile. They are therefore better for the fitting of mountain bike style tyres which offer better off-road traction and performance.

As standard it is supplied with some great all-rounder tyres fitted which are suitable for road or gravel surfaces. However big knobbly tyres can also be fitted for maximum off-road capability. As such this build option is better suited to anyone looking for a capable off-road bike that is lighter and faster than a comparable MTB.

Leisure Fully Loaded – £999

The Fully Loaded edition is supplied with a Sram NX 1 11 speed groupset . The single chainring set up makes it easier to set up and maintain and offers the rider a wide range of gears that helps the when the terrain steepens. Again like the commuter fully loaded it includes the following accessories which are fitted durign the build process;

Hybrid Trail AL – From £799

The Hybrid Trail shares the same upright, comfortable riding position and groupset as the Hybrid AL . Where it differs is in the addition of suspension forks and large diameter MTB wheels.

  • A Shimano Claris 8 speed groupset offers great ‘no nonsense’ shifts and reliability with a low gear range for mixed terrains.
  • The Suntour NCX supension forks provide 63mm of travel for soaking up the bumps when riding along rough surfaces, forest trails and canal towpaths etc.
  • Mavic Crossmax 29 wheels – the wheels are of a larger diameter which roll better, particularly when off-road. Again a vast array of tyres are available from slicks to knobbly mud shedding tyres.

Urban 725s – From £699

Simplicity is the name of the game with the Urban 725s. The fixed/single speed option in the Ribble hybrid range. A beautifully crafted Reynolds Steel frame in a retro style is married to a single speed/fixed drivetrain and some classic Italian Track wheels. The fixie/single speed is synonymous with cycle couriers and commuters alike due to its almost maintenance free durability.

  • A beautifully crafted British Steel Reynolds 725 frame with matching cromoly forks. The natural ‘spring’ of steel provides a very compliant ride which helps absorb road vibration.
  • Single speed drivetrain – the single speed allows you to freewheel as you would on any standard bike.
  • Fixed gear – flip the rear wheel around and you have a fixed gear bike which is similar to a track bike. When you stop pedalling the freehub locks up and acts like a rear brake. The fixie takes a little getting used to but is a popular choice with urban cyclists and even has its own community.
  • Miche Xpress track wheels – The Italian brand have been producing quality track components for 100 years and offer a great build quality, durability and performance.
